Sculpture ideas for two locations in Sunshine

John King Proposal “Dancer”.    A 21’ tall x 14’ x 14’ Living Organic Sculpture. Lit from below. Enlivened by the wind. Stainless steel tubing and aluminum sheet metal construction. Transparent automotive colors over polished metal. Some transparent polycarbonate panels.

 Inherent Themes:

  • Look Up to locate yourself. The wider horizon around us is our source and destination.

  • A living tree in the center of the Forest, Village, Center, Community. Information comes from connecting with and being present in the center.

  • A community of branches, leaves, birds, animals, insects, flowers and others all brought to life by the wind and your eye.

 My Style:

I live and work on a river in Lyons, Colorado. I am inspired by the movements of Nature, the wind and water and their interactions. My work is friendly, connecting, optimistic and about THIS important moment.  I have been creating kinetic wind activated artworks for many years. They are durable and long lived. They come alive.

I do lots of art with hospitals, schools, crisis centers, recreation centers.   Places where humans are doing good things. I want to be in on this project.

The location favors Tower mounted overhead wind activated sculptures with appropriate colors and forms that augment the locations. Small presence on the ground, expanding overhead, gliding in the breeze. Look up! at the building and the art.

John King Proposal- A 24’ tall x 18’ wide moving “Tree of LIfe” responds to the breezes and the touch of the community. Leaves, branches, flowers, fruits, birds, animals, insects and others all come to life at the village center. Seating around the Tree will be part of the artwork. Constructed of stainless steel and transparent paints over highly polished surfaces for iridescent colors. A smooth stone in the center of the trunk can be turned to activate the story above. In the center of the community, the tree of life.

Overhead, moving sculptures that arebrightly lit by reflective light. They glide and react to the input of patrons by touch from a sidewall activation device or is electrically moved by the input of motion sensors that read the presence of the patrons in the room below.  Delicate and gentle motion is desired in both cases. The artwork overhead is a source of light and color and an interaction between the building and the patrons.

The following artworks demonstrate elements of what I would bring to bear on this commission

“Journeys from Center” DPS Emily Griffith Campus, Denver, CO. Blue transparent films allow light from above to shine through.

Like raindrops on a pond. Rippling circles expand overhead…

Journeys is activated by students in the lobby. A performance piece in the lobby of the huge building on Lincoln St. in Denver.

Sky Writing in Beihai, China! Bird wings cross overhead

“Happiness Runs” Bison Ridge Rec Center, Commerce City, CO An overhead performance piece with great character.

Happiness Runs is a circular parade of 9 unique character elements acting together in a play of light and color. See the connection to your opportunity? Note the blue activating cylinder in the far corner, safely out of the way.

“Movement from Center” Broomfield Health Dept.

“Star Gazer” Children’s Hospital, Denver. Interactive, action, acting, enacting, an actor, in action. All the same thing.

Movement from Center reflects light off of thousands of points on the iridescent surfaces without needing thousands of light bulbs.
